Leaving a Legacy

This week, I met with one of our founders, Anne Rackley. Her husband, Joe, felt called by God to do something to advance the Kingdom of God in the 1970s. Although Joe didn't know what to do, he felt compelled to take action and prayed for guidance. One day, while praying Joe felt a clear answer resonate in his heart: "If you want to do something, serve children." This led to the establishment of Roxie Anna Collins Home and Family Ministries, and now, after forty-four years, we are still answering that call.

Stepping onto the Collins Home Family Ministries campus for the first time, I was immediately struck by reverence. This twenty-six-acre sanctuary, nestled on Keowee School Road in Seneca, is more than just a physical space. It's a haven for children, where peace permeates the air, and words fall short of capturing its essence.

During my meeting with Anne this week, I listened to stories about Roxie Anna retold by her grandson, Ken. I was captivated for over two hours as Ken shared Roxie Anna’s legacy as an intercessory prayer warrior. He recounted how seeing people get healed was a common occurrence. He also shared stories of ambulances bringing the sick to his grandmother for prayer. The detail with which he shared the stories is something I will never forget.

One of Collins Home Family Ministries’ core values is “Lasting Legacy.” After the meeting this week, I have gained a deeper understanding of why legacy is so important. The Bible says, “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matt 6:20-21).”

Legacy is a treasure we leave for future generations, established in our everyday lives. It is built now, recounted in the future, and cherished forever. Although Roxie Anna passed before Joe prayed about what to do, and Joe passed before I was hired, they live on through the work we are doing today. I am blessed to be a part of the next generation of the Collins Home Family Ministries legacy.

Today, I urge you to reflect on what you are doing to leave a legacy. What will future generations say about you, and how will your community be impacted?

If you want to build your legacy, I invite you to join us at Collins Home Family Ministry. We're seeking your commitment in three key areas, which I've dubbed 'PEP.' You can serve by joining our prayer team, volunteering your time, or providing financial support.
