Miracles in the Every Day
Are you familiar with the miracle story of Jesus feeding the 5000? With only two fishes and five loaves of bread, Jesus fed a crowd of 5000 people who gathered to hear Him speak. Sometimes, it feels impossible to witness a miracle like that, yet I believe God is constantly performing these miracles in our lives every day. One of our missionary moms, Misty, went back to school shopping recently and witnessed one of God’s miracles. Here is Misty’s story:
Today started just like a typical Saturday: Get up! Get the kids up! Make breakfast! Let the toddler run around to get his energy out. However, today is different because the back-to-school countdown is on. Earlier this week, we learned that one of our kiddos would return to us after leaving for a few months. I thought about this sweet boy all week, knowing he would need shoes, clothing, and other essentials due to a growth spurt. So, I asked Kelly, our Director, what I should do and where I should go because I wanted him to have everything he needed while staying within our budget.
Kelly gave me a gift card and encouraged me to get him what he needed. Initially, I had planned to go to Rack Room because earlier in the week, Kelly took all the kids there for shoes. The staff at Rack Room were exceptional; they worked with us to ensure we got all the coupons and BOGOs we qualified for. However, because this was going to be a busy day, Kelly suggested I head to the Shoe Show instead. I walked in and immediately found a pair of shoes I knew he would love (fastest shoe shopping I have ever done). In front of me, at the counter, there was a lady with six kids. I was busy, thinking about all I needed to do, and I wasn’t paying attention to what was happening in front of me.
It was my turn at the register, so I handed the cashier the shoes for our sweet boy. She rings them up, puts them in a bag, and hands them to me. Confused, I said, “I have not paid yet.” The cashier motioned to a man near her and said, “He’s paying for all school shoes this morning.” I looked at him, thanked him, hugged him tightly, and went out the door. What a blessing! When I called Kelly to tell her what happened, she said, “God is Faithful.” I agree. He always is.
Next, we headed to Walmart for clothes and the other things our sweet boy needed. As my daughter and I loaded our van after shopping, I heard “Mama Misty.” It was our sweet boy and his family. He came over, and I got to show him his new shoes! He hugged me as tears welled up in his eyes. With deep appreciation, he said, “Thank you, Mama Misty!” When his Mama walked over, tears started pouring down her face. She grabbed me and just squeezed.
My mentor has been teaching me about faith; today, those lessons have become real. Faith may start as a small mustard seed, but it grows. Today, faith grew in the heart of a struggling mom, a boy who experienced poverty, and my own heart.
Over two thousand years ago, Jesus fed the 5000 with only two fish and five loaves. Last week, God provided twenty-five pairs of name-brand shoes, clothing for one kid, a birthday experience for a sixteen-year-old and built our faith with three gift cards valued at fifteen hundred dollars. We cannot explain it, but we watch God move daily!
