Prayer Changes Everything

For the last year, the board, staff and volunteers of Collins Family Ministries have prayed for the children and families we serve. We’ve shed tears and celebrated many milestones. It’s been an undeserved privilege to stand with those who need support and encouragement along their journey. It was not always easy, but it will forever be worth it. I’m pleased with the progress we’ve seen but I know there is more to do.

In my heart I believe prayer changes things. The Bible and the teachings of Jesus support my belief, and it’s led me to a question that I want to ask you and our local churches:

How could our community be changed if we agreed to pray for children and families specifically and intentionally who are facing hardship in our community? What if 52 churches adopted one week each and agreed to join us in a prayer journey during 2025?!

Once I began to ask this question, I knew God was going to provide us with a plan and that’s how Churches for Change was born. We are actively recruiting 52 churches, small groups, or Sunday school classes to join us in a week of guided prayer and change collection. Collins will provide the prayer cards and change collection jars, and your church will let us know what week you will serve.

During your one-week commitment, your church will have seven different prayer prompts to follow. Once your week is over, simply bring the change jar back to the church and we will pick up the jar, count the coins and let your church know the impact of your Churches for Change week. It’s really that simple!

While the concept is simple, joining hands in prayer for our community remains the priority! Why? Because I’ve seen prayer change even the bleakest situation into an opportunity for His glory. My husband and I married in 1993, and we knew we desired children and wanted a family but nine years after our marriage we still didn’t have children of our own. It was hard, for we had prayed and believed but it seemed as if God had not heard.

Then—when we least expected it—I found out I was pregnant during January of 2002. God had heard, God did know, it just was not time yet. That’s why I’m so committed to prayer! Because God hears, He knows, and He holds the time in His hands! So today, I ask you to join us in making a significant and meaningful impact in the Kingdom of God and in our community.
